The lichens are extraordinary examples of symbiosis in the nature. They have been around for about 700 million years on earth and they are incredible tiny terraformers. They play a major role in breaking down rocks into particles that reaches under the ocean and in return creating volcanic eruptions that create new lands and rocks and so on. This is one of the long and complex cycles of land formation.
